Cancun is not an area in Mexico that is cheap to live in, however, the people are basically warm and friendly. You can be comfortable there. Some things will cost more and some things less. There are bad parts of town that you stay out of just like any city. For the most part the freedom you will feel living in Cancun is worth all the other small stuff you will be missing in the USA.
