Tijuana: Marines from San Diego Naval Base returning to Tijuana
Marines from the San Diego Naval Base will return to
Tijuana starting May 15th, after a ban that lasted more than 5 years. Tijuana mayor Jorge Ramos Hernandez has been pushing for the return of the marines and finally his work paid off. On the above mentioned date, the main three admirals from the San Diego Naval Base will arrive in Tijuana with a hundred marines to celebrate on a gala that will take place on Revolution Avenue. This gala (and accompanying dinner) will be sponsored by TJ’s ayuntamiento (government center), and everybody that is somebody in this border city will be there, along with every one of the 18 mayors from San Diego county. For safety reasons, almost 6 years ago, San Diego marines had been forbidden to cross the border on their days off.
