Gooding, whose son is the well-known actor Cuba Gooding Jr., also will receive a key to the city and proclamation as Goodwill Ambassador from Mayor Hugo Torres for his work in helping promote Rosarito.
Gooding has a vacation home in Rosarito and has performed here several times, with appreciative audiences often singing along to hits.
"I grew up in New York, and traveled a lot throughout my artistic career,” he said in a Monday meeting with the mayor.
“I have houses in several cities including the Caribbean, but it is at my house in Rosarito where I can relax quietly, so I feel much happier here than anywhere else in the world,” Gooding said.
Mayor Torres thanked the musician for his helping promoting the area. “We appreciate your love of the city and your efforts to publicize it,” Torres said. The mayor also invited Gooding to join him on some promotional trips.
"Some songs of the 70's have become classics and are becoming popular among the younger generation, so I’d like to invite college-aged people as well as ones from that era to the shows," Gooding said.
