Below are the top five places one would not want to miss on a tour of Mexico.

1. Puerto Vallarta

Found along the beautiful Pacific Coast of Mexico, comfortable sitting at the foot of the Sierra Madre mountains, Puerto Vallarta awaits its visitors with mystery, beauty and spice. The town has become one of the most sought after holiday spots around the world. The amazing weather, inexpensive accommodations and friendly locals have earned it a high degree of respect as a tourist hot spot. Aside from simply taking in the immense beauty of the scenic coastline, Puerto Vallarta has many activities to keep visitors amused.

2. Isla Mujeres

Those looking for relaxation and escape from the real world will find all they need on this tiny Island. There is a sense of history and mystery upon exiting the ferry, but there is also a sense of extreme serenity and peace. One can simply lay out on the beach and soak it all in, or go for a stroll visiting some of the charming little shops and restaurants.

This is also a romantic spot. The locals tell a story of a pirate who fell in love with a woman from the Island and how he loved her so much his entire life. Romance, relaxation and rejuvenation can all be found on the Isla Mujeres.

3. Zihuatanejo

This little fishing village, located near the busier city of Ixtapa, has become famous due to its mention in the movie called Shawshank Redemption. In the film it's called the perfect place to escape, and many people really feel that way about Zihuatanejo. It is truly like stepping into another world altogether. What visitors love about Zihuatanejo is the sense of being in old Mexico. There is something real and authentic about this village that is not seen in most parts of Mexico. It's as if time has stopped there and not much has changed. It is quiet, peaceful and overflowing with charm.

4. Cabo San Lucas

There is no question that Cabo San Lucas has become one of the most popular places to visit in Mexico. Once people visit, they rarely want to leave! Cabo San Lucas is known for its fun-filled and crazy nightlife. College students often head this way to blow off a little steam and enjoy the parties between semesters. It's also an ideal spot for stag weekends or hen parties. It is a beautiful place with great food and welcoming locals. When it comes to Cabo San Lucas there are two words to describe it: party and beauty!

5. Oaxaca

There is one place that has become a top tourist spot recently because of its rich culture, history, beauty and delicious cuisine. Oaxaca is the perfect place to go to experience the tastes, sounds and sights of Mexico. One could spend hours simply exploring the Indian ruins at Monte Alban or observing the stunning architecture found in the older buildings and cathedrals. Watch the locals making craft rugs and be sure to take one home. They are beautiful and skilfully made.
